What are ways in which the four forces of flight alter flying devices (consider how the four forces act on athletes competing in the Olympics)?

  1. The four forces alter flying devices with its own unique force:

    THRUST: The force that moves things forward created by air, usually generated by a propeller or jet engine

    LIFT: The Upward force that is creaated by the movement of air which goes above and below a wing. Air moves faster above the wing and slower beneath the wing.

    DRAG: The air resistence that helps the device slow the opposite force which is thrust.

    WEIGHT: this force brings all objects back to earth, also known as gravity.

    These forces may act on althetes because the olympic events are all movable events where the althetes move around so some may halp athletes steer there device or move around.
    For example:
    The skiing events all use Skis which act on athletes because thrust makes the athlete go forward and air controls the speed. Drag makes the athlete slow down if they are going to fast or something. Lift acts on the athlete when they are jumping to move forward and keep control. Weight is the opposite, when they are landing from their jump, they would need the weight to get the down. Jenny

  2. I think the four forces of flight relate to the olyimpics because if you were a mogel skier and you wanted to have a nice start , you need to pull back so you can thrust forwards.

  3. I also think the olympics relate the the four forces of flight because is you are in the air doing a crazy flip as areil skier and you were up in the air weight, would work with gravity and allow you to land.

  4. I agree with Giorgia how when you are a mogul skier you pull back so you can thrust forward. For a lot of olympic sports, gravity is a huge part so they can safely land. Some sports are Mogul skiing, I think figure skating when you jump and than you can land, snowboarding, and a lot more! Alice :D

  5. The four forces help the Olympic athletes a lot. In every sport all 4 forces are incorporated. For example:

    Ski Jumping: pull, drag, lift, weight. Drag slows the athletes down when landing, Pull allows them to get speed, lift allows them to get height, and weight brings them down.

    Speed Skating: pull, drag, lift, weight. Pull allows them to gain the speed going down the track, Drag helps slow them down when finishing, lift helps give them feel light on their feet and, weight helps them stay on the ground.

  8. The four forces of flight tie in with the oplympic because the force weight helps a skiier back on the ground after they do a flip or something in the air and drag slows them down and keeps then from going really fast unless they really need to. Thena :)

  9. I think the four forces of flight alter the athletes while competing in the Olympics:
    Thrust helps bring forward an athlete like speed skating.
    Lift helps rising an athlete in the air like ski jumping.
    I agree with Giorgia on how weight helps a mogul skier go down a hill
    Drag helps an athlete like a skier stop at the end of the race. Kayleigh

  10. The four forces of flight tie into the Olympics because drag slows you down for safety, and when you're skiing and you go on those ramps weight brings you back down, thrust which helps skiers move forward and lift helps Olympians move forward after jumping.

  11. the four forces of flight tie into the olympics because for exaple alpine skiers get pulled down because of your weight brings you down so you dont stay in the air forever
